Data center: what the job needs

White space, colocation hall, AI/GPU pod, edge site, server room

White space, colocation and AI pods. Rack count, power per rack and A/B feeds drive whip ties, tray ties, rack dressing, bonding lugs and PDU feeder lugs. Hook-and-loop on data and fiber, nylon only on power.

How this estimate works

Each quantity comes from a stated rule of thumb applied to your answers. For a typical data center (100-rack data center at 10 kW per rack, A/B power), these are the rules and the items they point to:

  • NR-4x200 Harness tie, 40 lb, 7.9 in, 3.5 mm wide
    • Power cords inside the rack: 20 small ties per rack
  • NR-8x370 Heavy-duty nylon tie, 120 lb, 14.6 in (370 mm)
    • Power whips: 6 ties per whip (tray drop, rack entry, PDU) × 200 whips
  • NR-9x600 Heavy-duty nylon tie, 175 lb, 23.6 in (600 mm)
    • Power tray: a tie every 3 ft per feed over about 400 ft (4 ft per rack)
  • NR-HL12x200 Hook-and-loop strap, 12 mm wide, 7.9 in
    • Rack dressing: 60 hook-and-loop straps per rack (vertical managers and patch fields)
    • Data and fiber tray: 2 bundles strapped every 2 ft over about 400 ft
  • NR-DRS-13 Heat shrink tubing 2:1, 13 mm (1/2 in), 100 m roll
    • Labeling whips and ground conductors: 6 in per rack
  • NR-DRS-25 Heat shrink tubing 2:1, 25 mm (1 in), 50 m roll
    • Heat shrink over feeder lugs: 4 in per lug
  • NR-SC120-12 Copper tube lug, 120 mm², 1/2 in stud
    • PDU and RPP input feeders: 8 lugs (4/0) per PDU × 7 PDUs of about 150 kW
  • NR-SC16-6 Copper tube lug, 16 mm², 1/4 in stud
    • Rack bonding: 2 grounding lugs per rack

We add 10% for waste and offcuts, round up to whole packs of 100 and whole rolls, and show a low to high range because real jobs vary with routing, spacing and spec. Your drawings and spec sections beat any rule of thumb: send them with your quote request and we'll price from them.
